Why should I pray
for the dead?
Prayers for the Deceased
Please pray for those who have died in Christ and are
buried throughout the Rockville Centre Diocesan Cemeteries:
Our sisters and brothers have gone to their rest in the peace of Christ.
May the Lord now welcome them to the table of God’s children in
heaven. With faith and hope in eternal life, let us assist them with our
prayers.
Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord.
May they rest in peace.
May their souls and the souls of all the faithful departed,
Through the mercy of God, rest in peace.
Amen.
Pray for The Cemetery Workers
Dear God
We Ask You To Bless Our Work As We
Labor In This Part Of Your Vineyard
Please Help Us To Remember The Souls Of The
Faithful Departed For Whom We Work
So Diligently To Provide A Place Of Beauty
And Reverence For Earthly Remains
We Also Ask You For The Gifts Of
Patience, Comfort, And Compassion In Our
Assistance To Their Bereaved Families As
They Journey Through Their Grief
We Ask Your Blessing Lord
Amen.
The Cemetery office is an environment where
families initiate a relationship with the Catholic Church that can touch
the very core of religious faith in the resurrection of the body and life
everlasting. Often families come into the cemetery office in deep
sorrow. The Catholic cemetery through both its religious
environment and its gentle and caring staff is called upon to be a place
of comfort, of healing, of support, in the image of Jesus Christ in both
comforting the Widow of Nain and the raising of her son.
“Catholic Cemeteries Called To Be Church”
The mission of Catholic Cemeteries must reflect the
mission of the Church: to communicate the love of Christ for all humanity
and to exhibit the hope and power that flows from the resurrection.
We are called not simply to do Church, but to be
Church: a community bound by a vision of the future, centered around the
Eucharist, and committed to assist those in need of healing and presence.
To the extent that Catholic cemeteries are viewed
by the people of the Church as a ministry of the Church – and
therefore, different from a for-profit business – to that extent
will Catholic cemeteries be part of the daily life of the Church.
